Him and Us

There is a holy place called Iraq,
Once ruled, by the forces of dark.
Their leader was Saddam Hussein,
Who brought his people nothing but pain.
Thousands were sent to the grave,
Young and the old, weak and the brave.
He built his rule by his people's bones,
His throne perched atop their tombs.
Yet one day, his regime did fall,
Captured he was, and thrown in jail.
He was judged by the rules of the land,
And was sentenced to be hanged.
His rule took thousands of lives,
In return, we took away his.
O civilized people, can you tell me this
How better, are our actions from his?

Help

Oh, my new friend … what a truth you speak. Yes, you are a light. Please share more with us, won't you?
no answer for civilized actions
Yes, I agree with John…
Those are wise words, my new friend…I am enjoying your blog!
Thank You for sharing with us ;-)
Hi Vijay,
You raise a difficult question - while we as individuals do not have the right to judge/pass punishment on a fellow human being, i do believe that in order to have order in society, there do need to be policemen/keepers of the law.
So long as a fair process is followed in punishing crime, i’m ok with it.
However, i still love your thots :-)
Yeah, true - topics like death sentence and euthanasia are very very difficult to discuss. A good justice system is absolutely necessary, but I'm only trying to understand this - if we go eye for an eye, life for a life, where does it all end?
I was in two minds, whether to post this poem or not.
Thank you so much for your comment.
Hi Vijay,
I also go thru' this conflict - about whether we as individuals have any right to judge.
However, society must have it's rules.
I guess the question is - whether we are judging as an individual? i question this right, and also question it's utility in some way. Perhaps it's better to focus on one's own life, rather than judge others.
However, i do believe (as you seem to as well) in the right of appointed members of the judiciary, to judge.
:-)
